Product schema checker
Check a product page's Product markup against what Google requires before it can show price, stock and ratings in search. Give a store's homepage and we pick its first product.
Free, no sign-up. Reads one public page, the way a search engine does. Works on any store, not just yours.
What Google needs from a product page
Product markup is the JSON-LD block that tells Google what a page sells. Google's documentation sets a floor for two kinds of result, and the checker holds the markup to both.
- Merchant listings, the shopping results with price and stock. Google requires a name, an image and an Offer carrying a price above zero and a three letter currency code. Availability, brand, identifiers such as a GTIN or SKU, shipping and returns are recommended.
- Product snippets, the price or review stars under a normal result. Google requires a name and at least one of offers, a review or a rating. A rating Google can use needs a rating value and a count of reviews or ratings, as the review snippet guide sets out.
The commonest faults on Shopify stores are a price written with a currency sign, a missing currency, two Product blocks that disagree (one from the theme, one from an app), and review stars an app adds in a block Google cannot tie to the product. The checker looks for each. More on Shopify product schema and rich results.
What this can and cannot tell you
What it reads
- Every Product in the page's JSON-LD, including variants listed in a ProductGroup
- Name, image, offers, price, currency and availability
- Description, brand, identifiers, shipping, returns and ratings
- Broken JSON-LD blocks, and two Products with different prices
What it cannot see
Markup a script adds after the page loads, which Google may still read, and whether Google will show a rich result, which it decides for itself. It does not check that the price matches what the page shows, or the tracking tags and purchase events on the page. It checks Product markup in JSON-LD, the form Shopify themes use, and only notes microdata.
Questions people ask
How do I check my Shopify product schema?
Paste a product page address above, or your store's homepage and we follow it to the first product. The checker reads the page's Product markup and marks each property Google requires or recommends as passing, missing or wrong. Google's Rich Results Test gives a second opinion on the same page.
Why are my review stars not showing in Google?
Often the rating is missing a review count, or a reviews app writes it in a block of its own that does not name the product it rates. Even with valid markup, Google decides whether to show stars, and it does not show them for every site or every search.
What is the difference between merchant listings and product snippets?
Merchant listings are the shopping results that show price, stock and delivery, and they need an Offer with a price and currency. Product snippets are the extra line under a normal search result, and they need a name and one of offers, a review or a rating.
My theme and an app both add Product markup. Is that a problem?
It can be. Two Product blocks for one page can disagree on price or availability, and Google may read either. The checker flags two Products with different prices. The fix is to keep one source, usually the theme, and switch off the app's markup.
Can AuditTag fix missing product schema?
Yes. The free audit finds product pages with no Product markup, and the Fix Pack writes the missing markup as a theme snippet you paste in yourself. Nothing is installed and nothing touches your store until you choose to.
